Between 6 and 9 p.m. April 25, despite predictions of rain, about 55 cash mobsters spent $1,282.73 at El Pollo Norteño, a family-owned authentic Mexican restaurant in Garden Grove. That’s double what the quick-service diner does on a typical Wednesday night, according to the O.C. Register.
Here are a few more excerpts from the Register’s article:
The Coronas welcomed the extra business with raffles of Angels baseball tickets and food. Also, 10% of the money mobsters spent at El Pollo Norteño that night went to to charity: The HOPE Foundation in Garden Grove or Eli Home in Anaheim. Tired of the same old Easter Ham every year?
Easter Sunday is a special time – a day to thank God and spend time with your friends and family. At El Pollo Norteño we want you to do just that – instead of worrying about what to feed everyone give us a call or stop by any of our four Orange County restaurants, in Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana, and pick up a delicious Family Pack, with enough food to feed everyone!
How good is our special family recipe chicken? Here’s what the O.C. Register’s Food Frenzy reporter had to say about it in a recent article, “It’s stained lava-red by the marinade, and the skin is revelatory – grilled and speckled with burnt bits, fatty and crispy like un-breaded fried poultry. There’s a subtle wisp of smoke in each bite, and the white meat is quite good .”
Our Family Pack #1 includes two marinated, mesquite-grilled chickens, one quart of our savory, fluffy home style Mexican rice, one quart of either our healthy whole or delectable refried beans, our spicy homemade salsa, roasted jalapenos and sliced onions, warm corn and/or flour tortillas and ONE FREE CHICKEN! Aaron Morris, a food reviewer at OC Magazine, has become a devoted fan of El Pollo Norteño’s food – and he likes it delivered! Morris wrote about his love for the authentic Mexican food offered at El Pollo Norteño in an article published on March 1. Here are a few excerpts from his article:
I had some friends over, we got hungry, and wanted food. I was not in the mood for pizza for the millionth time, so I searched for “food delivery” and found GrubHub.com. The website provided a list of restaurants that deliver to my area, and selecting one of the choices takes you to an order screen. That’s the other thing I like about GrubHub — I won’t have to go through a separate log-in and order process for various restaurants, I can order from the one location. St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this month, on March 17. Did you know that this holiday means something in Mexico too?
The Saint Patrick’s Battalion (Spanish: Batallón de San Patricio) was a unit of 175 to several hundred immigrants (accounts vary) and expatriates of European descent who fought as part of the Mexican Army against the United States in the Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1848.
Most of the battalion’s members had deserted or defected from the U.S. Army. Made up primarily of ethnic Irish and German Catholic immigrants, the battalion included Canadians, English, French, Italians, Poles, Scots, Spaniards, Swiss, and native Mexicans, most of whom were Roman Catholics. About 7,000 people attended a Mexican Flag Day ceremony in downtown Santa Ana on Sunday afternoon, aimed at honoring the Mexican and American flags and educating many in the audience about their Mexican roots, according to the O.C. Register.
Día de la Bandera (“Flag Day”) is a national holiday in Mexico. Flag Day is celebrated every year on February 24 since its implementation in 1937. It was established by the President of Mexico, General Lázaro Cárdenas, before the monument to General Vicente Guerrero, first to pledge allegiance to the Mexican flag on March 12, 1821. Washington’s Birthday is a United States federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States. It is also commonly known as Presidents’ Day. As Washington’s Birthday or Presidents’ Day, it is also the official name of a concurrent state holiday celebrated on the same day in a number of states. Many of these states choose to honor President Abraham Lincoln as well as President Washington.
President Washington’s favorite foods included Hoe Cakes (corn meal cakes cooked on a hoe), Mashed Sweet Potatoes, String Beans with Almonds, Steak and Kidney Pie, and Fish Muddle. Favorite desserts were Tipsy Cake, also known as Trifle, and Martha Washington’s Whisky Cake . He was very fond of Porter, a dark ale, but Madera and Wine were usually present at the table as well. He loved pickles and other condiments, particularly Mushroom Catsup. And he loved cherries, in any form but particularly Cherry Pie. Like in England, pies were a favorite food on the early American table, both sweet and savory. Continue reading What did Presidents Washington and Lincoln like to eat?

It is a special time of year – Christmas is here! And as our gift to you, our valued customers, we are offering a delightful special – a free slice of our delicious dessert, flan, when you spend at least $5 on any purchase. Click here for your coupon.
Do you know the history of flan? Flan is found in recipes as far back as ancient Rome. It was during Roman times that domesticated chickens were first kept for laying eggs. The Romans, with eggs in surplus, and consulting the Greek’s knowledge of the art of cooking, developed new recipes, one of which turned out to be a custardly concoction known as flan. It was orignally a savory dish (not sweet, but aromatic and pleasing to the palate). The Romans concocted many dishes that we might find interesting, such as eel flan. They also had a very nice sweet flan that was flavored with honey. Continue reading Our Christmas gift to you – a free slice of flan, with any $5 purchase
